Brief Personal History: The son of Baptist Preacher Gary Don Barlow and his wife Mary, Johnny was originally born in Greens Fork, Indiana before his family moved first to Arkansas in 1860 where his father took over at a church there. To young to serve in the Civil War most of Barlows young life was spent on his fathers farm, or studying the bible and listening to his fathers personal lectures about the evils of sins and how he was constantly failing to meet up to God's expectations. The overbearing nature of his father planted the early seeds of resentment that he'd later fully embrace. Things only become more difficult as the years drove on and he got older and more 'sinful' in the eyes of his father.
Despite the difficulty with his father, Barlow proved to be a fair student, a good hunter and a remarkable knowledge of the bible. By the time he turned 15 he'd decided he'd had enough and ran away from home, never to return. Over the next few years Johnny Barlow explored for himself every sin his father had warned him about and eventually stole his first revovler. By the age of 17 he'd killed his first man over a gambling dispute. The first experience of killing a man fasinated him, the power he felt was unexplainable and it made him feel liberated and alive for the first time in his life. From here on out Barlow lived his life by the way of the gun.
Showing a talent with his revolver, he continued to practice and hone his shooting and fast-drawing skills until he started to get a bit of a reputation as a gunslinger, that was until he was ran out of Arkansas in 1874. Eventually ending up in Texas, he started trying his hand at other crimes, including holding up stage coaches with partners, more murder and work as a hired gun. In 1875 he ended up involved in the Mason County War in Texas alongside the infamous Johnny Ringo. Afterwards Barlow continued to peddle his services from Texas up through Oklahoma and into Kansas where he engaged in various robberies, range wars and other duties.By the age of 22 he was said to have already killed 13 men already in his young life, and his reputation with a pistol was growing stronger.
Barlow earned his title as Texas Red in the spring of 1877 after a night of gambling in Fort Worths, Hells Half Acre turned into a disagreement and then a shooting that claimed the live of five men. Forced to flee Fort Worth he went on the run from Texas Rangers. The Rangers finally caught up with him in 1878 but he managed to slip away, leaving one Texas Ranger dead and another wounded. Knowing his time was up in Texas, he first fled into the Badlands of New Mexico and then into Arizona before finally ending up in Lost Haven in late 1878.
There he found protection under the town Marshal and one of the most powerful mining moguls who hired him on as a 'problem solver' within six months of his arrival he'd collected together a dozen men to form his own gang that some dubbed the Barlow Gang. Now, Most of his time is either spent serving his 'master' or in the saloons of Paradise Street.
Personality: Barlow is a ruthless individual with a hot temper that is only complicated with alcohol. He has no value for life, even that of his own and he believes he's content with the fact that someday he'll probably meet his end in a bloody fashion. His only loyalty is to himself and the almighty dollar, his resentment towards his family and religion in general is no secret and to those that might be considered friends? His loyalty to them only goes so far, and he's quick to scold those around them when they make a mistake.
