Amidst a bit of fanfare Lost Havens Mayor Edward Cash hammered away at the City Hall bulletin board officially announcing the second manual Lost Haven Festival of Spring! Driving in the final nail into the festival Poster, The Mayor turned to face the small crowd that'd gathered around him to watch his announcement. "I hearby announce Lost Havens Festival of Spring 1880!" he applauded himself and managed to draw a few claps from the other people, but they weren't that excited about a event they knew was coming anyway. The Spring Festival had been an event the Mayor had dreamed up the previous year to put a more 'family friendly' to Lost Havens face as well as generate additional revenues for the town. The Lost Haven Festival was sponsered in part by Excelsior Mining Co., The Bank, A few of the local stores and even one competition was sponsored by Elliot Masters himself. The events that made up the festival were quite typical, beauty contests, pie eating competitions, fireworks, freak show, dancing, horse races along with a shooting competition. There were other things as well, including Music on the square which annoyed some people as somehow Lost Haven had attracted some people from the Mountains of Virgina and Arkansas and all they did was play banjo music! Most of the festivities were limited to main street and centered around City Hall but those ruffians on Paradise street had their own 'unoffical' activities including drinking contests and brawling matches.
Most of the competition offered small prizes or even a little prize money, but the real money makers was the shooting competition which included a long range match, pistol match, fast draw and shotgun match. This year Masters was offering a $150 Dollar Cash prize for whomever won the Long Range Rifle Competition and news of that prize had already spread across the Arizona territories like wild fire! There was no doubt that it'd draw a interesting class of top notch shooters and surely a whole lot more amateurs but that was where it could be quite fun and amusing. "This year we're going to be boasting a lot more competitions and contests ladies and gentlemen, fun for the old family, young and old alike! We'll be taking registrations for the shooting matches, Livestock show and races next friday right here on the court square, so don't you all miss out on that!"[/b] Again there were a few claps and cheers but as a ring-leader the Mayor always seemed to be lacking something. Excusing himself he returned to his office, while the towns people gathered around the poster, reading about the various events they had to look forward to this year..
((Something we'll have fun with and it'll serve some plot points!))
