"Oh.. Yes.. That would be delightful." Henry acknowledged as he allowed her to lead him to the open pew by the window. This church was quaint compared to what he was acustomed to back in Boston, but because of that it was a bit charming and certainly more personal. But for the moment Henry fell silent, fading into the background as seemingly everyone talked around him and up near thealter was the Pastor who'd soon begin the services of course. Henry quietly gazed across the faces of the gathered people, taking note of who was there and who wasn't. He noticed the Mayor and his wife, the man seemed nice enough though a bit daft and a little arrogant but he had a grand vision for Lost Haven and was certainly welcome to Henrys arrival. Again Sullivan offered the Doctor a quick nod before he strolled over to his usual place just behind the mayor, though keeping his eyes keen on those around him. He noticed Vandervoort in the background which honestly surprised him for some reason. But it didn't matter really, the man hadn't started any trouble yet so there was no need to pester him either as Sullivan found his seat. Devils Canyon"God Fearing?" Lawson chuckled softly. "I lost my faith somewhere between Fort Worth and El Paso I'm afraid." And that was an honest answer, somewhere along the way his faith in God had fallen to the wayside after the death of his brother and other things. The streets were pretty empty of course, either for the fact everyone was at church or recovering from their hangovers. Shane kept a sharp eye on his surroundings, making mental notes of the establishments Alex pointed out to him but something didn't add up.. It wasn't exactly the hellhole people had told him about, "I heard this place was a bit more.. rowdy?" Not knowing of course that the rowdy crowd tried to remain in the confines of Paradise street. His eyes glanced over the Saloon, a bit surprising it was open on a Sunday morning so maybe not everything he'd heard was totalyl wrong. "Yeah, a drink would be nice right about now.." he remarked before dismounting his horse and then tying it up outside.

Charles had taken his seat. Poor young Barton. No, it wasn't Rose who was the problem. It was the old crows who'd be swarming the poor guy for a while. But that also meant, that they would soon appear on the doctor's doorstep again. After all, O-Suzu was in need of saving, or so they believed. Mrs Yanders had said it herself. Sighing to himself Charles focused his attention on the preacher. What would he ramble about this day? Maybe he should really consider O-Suzu's idea. Two weeks ago she had said it. “You should do the preaching, sensei. You know a lot more than this priest. Where has he been to? You have a lot more experience, you've seen how humans are and what kind of things they do in the name of whatever god they have.” Oh what a little heathen she was. But, in fact, Charles believed that she was right on one aspect. People were doing horrible things in the name of their god. Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists... They all claimed the same thing. And then there were those rulers reigning over their countries due to some “divine” right. God had chosen them to rule the country, or so they claimed. It didn't matter whether it was in Japan, or China, or even in Great Britain. There were kings and emperors just sitting on a throne without knowing anything about their people and without caring about them. If they would, they wouldn't treat them the way they did, right? America was better there, oh yes, he knew that much. Of course, the United States weren't perfect either, but at least it was a government by the people. A democracy, unlike those European states with their kings and emperors.
Oh well, it wasn't really his problem, was it? They would eventually wake up and realize their mistakes, right? At least, there was hope.

Katie gathered her skirts, making her way carefully over the dusty path towards the building the faithful citizens of Lost Haven seemed to be congregating to. The last time she'd attended a sunday service was as a child in Ireland, when her mother yet lived.
God had very little to do with her life then or now, and paying respect seemed slightly ridiculous, but it had been strongly suggested to her by a kindly old lady (who had helped her buy "respectable" clothing and the other things a young woman needs) that attending the local church would be the best way to meet people and find a place for herself in this tiny town.
So, dressed in her new blue linen dress and her simply crocheted lace collar, her hair tightly braided, a few curls slipping free to frame her face, she quietly made her way into the back, skittish but determinedly looking around for an unclaimed pew upon which to sit.

Silence between Rose and Mr. Barton was a companionable one. While he was busy gazing around at everyone, Rose was sitting reading a passage in the bible. She looked up as Mrs Fowler on her way to her seat, was whispering just loud enough for those around to hear her. It was common knowledge that Mrs. Fowler, was maybe the biggest busy body and gossip. Her with Mrs. Yanders? Well, nothing was a secret for long. Currently they were whispering and glancing back. Rose too glanced back catching site of a young woman. She looked like she was looking for a place to sit.
"Haven't heard much more then Rumors of course, but hardly any one knows her and they say" The hens went on to hint at some unkind things about the woman. Rose frowned and turned to Mr. Barton.
"Mr. Barton, there's room enough for one more on this bench, would you mind if I invite that woman? She seems to be as new as you and could do with a helping hand and kindness." At that last remark she cast a stern, reproachful, glare at the older women, who flushed and shuffled back to their seats. Rose turned back to Henry awaiting his answer before she went to introduce herself to the new comer.

“Understandable.” Alex said, in response to his answer on faith. He didn’t however, offer any information on himself. As they walked into the bar Alex waved at the tender and sat down.
“Rowdy? Generally it is, people have shoot outs in the street every other day.” He said, not mentioning anything about Red and his gang. Alex order two glasses of whiskey and turned back to the man. “Paradise street is the worst of it though. We’re not there, but we’re near enough to it. Rose’s , that’s my friend, hotel is on the other side of town, smite closer to the church.” He said sipping his drink.

Lost in thought and his spyings Henry was a little startled when Rose spoke to him, causing him to snap his head back around to face her."Huh?" he blinked a couple of times, confused a little before nodding. "Sure, Not a problem." he agreed, though he wasn't exactly sure what he was agreeing to.

Not knowing his surroundings that well, let alone trusting anyone Lawson removed the rifle that was still wrapped up in its protective canvas bag. The rifle was his primary work tool, and an expensive one at that. Someone had tried to steal it once before and the whole incident had been rather ugly. So unless he had a safe place to keep it? Where ever her went, the Sharps Rifle went. Aftwards he followed Alex into the Saloon. "Sounds a bit like all of the other tinpot boom towns I've seen." he remarked, Yes Lawson had seen many boomtowns in the past and they all seemed the same, though this one was a little larger. "Well, If you can promise that my belongings will be safe.. Your friend Rose has my business." He sat the butt of the rifle on the floor, carefully leaning it against the bar which drew a rather large set of eyes from the Bartender. "Appreciate it." he said while removing his hat and taking up the glass of whiskey, taking a healthy drink from it.

Katie glanced up as she saw a redhead approaching her, raising her eyebrows in question. She wasn't sure how to behave in a church, the accoustics in the small meeting hall were such that she could tell who was speculating about her and who wasn't; not that she was unused to such things and they did not phase her, but this girl's reason for coming over was still a mystery. Clutching the obviously brand new bible she had been pressed upon to buy, she nodded a greeting "How d'ye do?" She asked politely, hoping her uncertainty did not shine through.

Though she could tell that poor Mr. Barton hadn't really been listening to her, she just gave him a bright smile and stood up. It took her a moment to maneuver through the crowd of people. Rose saw the woman raise her eyebrow in question, just before she reached her.
"I'm very fine, thank you." Rose responded with a warm smile. She offered her hand, "I'm Rose. You seemed a little lost and I thought you might be new. If you'd like we've an open seat where I'm sitting." She offered, with what she hopped was a very welcoming smile. "If your new to town, I can introduce you to some of the folks here..." she trailed off.
/ALEX\
"My word on it. Though Rose's word might be worth more. She's at church right now, we have a good hour before I'll take you to meet her." Obviously since it was Sunday, there was only one person running the hotel, every one else was at church. He wouldn't be able to convince Rose to give this man a room until after church. Briefly he hoped everything would be alright between him and her.

Henry watched Rose for a moment as she wandered over to the young lady who'd just came in, before being distracted by the Hymn books placed in the small rack on the back of the pew. It was probably a good idea to remember some of the words to these old religious songs

Lawson nodded a bit as he downed another gulp of the whiskey. "Thats good enough for me." he said while an amusing thought crossed his mind, drinking before ten? How scandlous, oh if only his old pastor knew about his sinful ways. "How long have you been around this place?"

"I'm Katie, nice to meet you, Rose." She smiled shyly. Strange how she could be the most brazen and confident girl when it came to making her way in the world but in this little church she was so out of her element she felt like the nine year old she had been another lifetime ago, who had last made confession about stealing her brother's christmas candy.
She accepted Rose's hand and gratefully nodded, accepting her offer of a place to sit. "I am, very new actually - just two days. Lovely little town, though. What do you do here?" She asked, feeling like she was babbling and biting her tongue as she moved to sit with the girl.

Offering another smile, Rose led her back to their seats. "I'm the owner of the Five Grace Hotel. I run it with a dear friend, Alex. Though he..." she paused and some emotion flashed behind her eyes before leaving too quickly to be named. "Well, he won't be able to attend today." She finished.
Mrs. Yanders caught her eyes and wriggled her eyebrows, Rose frowned at her. "You'll find most people to be friendly, but there isn't always alot to do here, so gossip often runs over." Rose stopped in front of Mr. Barton.
"This is Mr. Barton, a guest at my hotel. He asked me to introduce him to people today." She said, "Mr. Barton, this is Katie, new herself to town, only two days in!" She smiled.
/alex\
"About...three or four years? I'm' not sure. Rose and I got here together right before it started hitting big." He sighed. "We fixed up an old property that her father had the deed to and opened up shop." He finished his drink.
"I was planning to leave here soon but....things got in the way." He changed the subject. "And how long have you been traveling?"

Katie saw the frown Rose directed at an older woman and took note of the lady. The talkers were going to be the ones she would have to watch out for, she smiled coolly at the woman before returning her attention to Rose as she made introductions to the gentleman already seated and nodded politely. "Pleasure to be makin' your acquaintance, Mr. Barton." She said quietly, a hitn of her Irish lilt she tried so hard to hide coming out along with her nerves, as she looked anxiously at Rose and sank into a seat.

Though deeply engrossed in the lyrics of the Heavenly Hymns Henry twitched visibly when he overheard the mere mentioning of Alex, oh that man was a pain, literally! But as soon as he realized Rose had brought the young woman over to him he popped back up to his feet. "Oh, A pleasure to meet you." he said with an awkward smile and offering his hand. "But uh, please yes.. sit with us." he gestured for an empty area of the pew.
Lost Haven- Lawson
"Funny how things have a way of working out eh?" Shane remarked over his drink, it seemed this man had been here almost since the begining. Though if he was part owner in a hotel it seemed he was doing quite well for himself. "Me?" he chuckled. "A few years now, seen just about every frontier town imaginable."

It was quiet unlike Rose to go out of the way for some one. But she couldn’t seem to help herself. She’d noticed how lost Ms. Katie had looked when she’d stepped in, and the older women were being less then kind. So Rose did something she’d never done before, she’d gone over and spoken out. So far it had turned out all right, though Rose was so nervous her hands were shaking. She hid them in the folds of her dress. She sat down between Ms. Katie and Mr. Barton. For a brief moment her hand reached up and touched her cross, then back down to hide in her skirt. She offered Ms. Katie another smile, hoping it was reassuring and would ease some of the nervousness coming off the other woman.
“Are you staying in Lost haven for long Ms. Katie?” Rose asked, her voice soft, but audible over the din of the church.

He nodded his agreement in the way things turned out. Taking off his hat, he ran a hand through his shaggy brown hair. Alex turned and looked at the man. For a moment he forgot, something important, and just stared. Lawson was a handsome man in that rugged sort of way. The kind of man, Alex had always wanted to be like. He remembered the forgotten thing suddenly and looked way.

"Oh, please, just Katie." She replied, smiling back at the young woman who had offered her a seat. "And I really don't know, right now it's looking fairly permanent.." She ran her hand absently over the stiff new bible she held in her lap like a shield against those who would question her right to be in such a place. She was not comfortable, but she was glad she'd come...

"Well, there are worst towns then Lost Haven to have as permanent homes." Rose said, brushing her hands over her own well read bible. It was old and the spine was cracked. "To be honest it's not a great town either. But for the most part the people are kind enough. I'm sure you'll find a warm welcome here." Rose said, ever the optimist. And to be honest, though Rose was as nervous as a new born chicken at talking to the strange woman, the fight with Alex had made her realize how much she needed another woman friend to talk to. There were just things she couldn't talk about with Alex, and now with him acting so strange...She fought off a sigh and forced her thoughts else where. It was for that reason, (the alex problem) that she'd plucked up enough courage to go talk to the new woman who looked as lost as Rose was feeling. Rose didn't have many friends in this town, and had decided to make herself some new ones.
