"If you're any example of your town, Ms. Rose, I've no doubt of it." She said, glancing up at her new acquaintance shyly. She was used to being in an unspeakable caste, where the only other women who would talk to her were other whores. The conversations she were used to were either with men hoping to get something from her, or casual conversations about sex, hair, and the ever impeding threat of aging, beauty lost. It was nerve-wracking, to sit here with people who were born to be so much better than she.
If Rose knew who she truly was, what she had been, and done... she doubted that she'd be sitting here, exchanging pleasantries. A woman of her breeding would probably have avoiding meeting her glance, if not loudly protested her being in the same house of worship. These thoughts troubled her, and she clutched the bible tighter, looking back down at her lap.

A pleased flush covered her cheeks, though she had nothing to say in return. Still it made her know that she'd done the right thing, getting up and talking to this new woman. "Well, I hope they live up to twhat I say of them." She finally said about the town ladies. Oh if Rose could have read minds, she would have been flattered and beyond pleased with the what Katie was thinking now, her a lady of 'breeding'. She would have been so tickled. But as it is, Rose can't read minds. So she just smiles again at Katie, and touches her cross and looks out the window as the voices in the church fall to a hush.

Though most of the 'worshipers' had found their way into the church and to their seat, there was one person still absent. As with every morning Sarah Schonfeld snuck in quietly while noone was looking hopefully. There was something that the ol church ladies didn't like about her, possibly because of her profession or rumors that she offered 'intimate' services on the side. That was all nonsense really, but in reality? She didn't belong here, It was a church that was currently under the influence of a Baptist Preacher and she was one hundred percent Jewish! So why was there a Jewish woman in a Christian church? Simple, It wasn't as if their was a Synagogue in this town so this in her opinion was the next best thing.. Rose knew the truth about her beliefs, and Sarah could remember it as if it was yesterday when she told her. "A house of worship is a house of worship, That silly old Pastor might be full of himself but that won't stop me from worshiping in a house of God, even if it does have all of the silly Jesus stuff!" And so she did. She found her usual seat behind Rose, and there she whispered a quick greeting before getting comfortable. Hopefully today would be more so of a sermon based on the Old Testament, in that case? It'd make this all a whole lot easier.
It was then that Pastor Gary Don Anderson stepped on the pulpit. "Good Morning, Isn't it a wonderful day to be out in the house of the Lord?"[/b] he asked with a big smile with his deep southern accent booming as it always did on Sunday morning. "I'm glad ya'll could make it out today, and those for couldn't? Well we'll say a prayer for them won't we?" Again he smiled at the assembly, leaning against the podium as he checked over his notes. "Now, Who's ready for a bit of gospel singin'?"

Rose whispered a greeting back to her friend and turned around picking up the book.
There was a chorus of 'yeah' in the crowd. They were ready for some singing. As the pastor directed which hym to start with and they found their pages, Rose gave a quick introduction.
"Ms. Katie, this is my friend Ms. Schonfeld" And then there was no time for talking as song, ((on and off key)) spilled forth. Rose sang, albit very, very quietly.

Singing wasn't really his strong point, nevertheless doctor Franklin joined the choir to praise the Lord. For years he hadn't taken part in such... events. He had avoided the gatherings at the foreign settlement in Yokohama. Oh, by rights he was a bad Christian. No, he was a heretic, a blasphemer. He had been abusing the name of the Lord, had violated the holy Sunday... and many other things. Worst of all, he had been living with a heathen woman in a relationship that hadn't been blessed by any church. And now he was in this church, pretending to be one of them. It was amusing, wasn't it?
Nevertheless, doctor Franklin tried to keep up with the other voices. One day he had to bring O-Suzu along, and if only to show her those strange... kuristians at work.

Katie tried not to let her fright show as the hymns began. Oh, she knew some of them, very well. Her mother had been a devout christian, her childhood filled with such memories. No rwas it her singing ability, which she both had and had used professionally on many occassions.
It was that she had no right to be here. She looked up startled at the sound of her name, and managed a faltering smile to Ms Schonfeld, and then stared at her feet, her lips pressed firmly together as she weighed which would be more horrifying, joining in, or running like hellhounds were nipping at her heels...
