{b]"See Doc, thats what I like about you.. You can talk yourself into anything."[/b] Bill grinned as he took another swig as O-Suzu broke in on their little mid-day party. It was plainly obvious that he was already a little under the influnce given his body language. "Oh come on.." And being out spoken. "You only live once miss, might as well have some fun right?" There was no doubt she'd either ignore his comments or come back with a snappy response but he really didn't care, not now.

Charles decided to remain silent for a second and leave this to O-Suzu. The young woman looked at the marshal, “And there's no need to shorten life with drinking this garbage.” Then she looked him over. He reminded her of those foreign sailors who had eventually appeared in her homeland. She hadn't minded them, except for... their smell. They smelled. He smelled. Those foreigners always smelled. They didn't seem to bath as often as the Japanese. Oh well. “Apart from that,” O-Suzu added, “a promise is a promise.” And thus one had to stick to it.

"Shorten? Ha!" The Marshal scoffed at the thought. "I've been drinking since I was 13 and I'm as healthy as a horse." And of course at that moment he started coughing a bit, "But I guess thats my sign, I should probably go Doctor." A slight edge of disappointment carrying over into his voice, he enjoyed Franklin as a drinking buddy actually and now this annoying girl of his had barged in and ended it. "See you at the Ambrosia club later maybe." he said before finishing off his drink and getting up. "Unless my services are needed.. Good day." he said bowing, then turning for the door.

O-Suzu didn't want to go down that road. Drinking ever since he was thirteen? Oh merciful Buddhas, that was horrible!
Charles merely nodded once. “Have a good day, marshal.” Once the arm of the law was gone, Charles had a short look at O-Suzu. “That wasn't really nice, you know?” The young woman picked up the now empty glasses. “Professor Virchow once said that if you shout into the forest, the forest shouts back. He doesn't like me, why should I pretend to like him? You told me that I don't have to watch out for such things around here.” Maybe that had been an error, but Charles had to admit that O-Suzu had a point with what she said. Still, some of the guys in this town were just as dangerous as some of the samurai and ronin he had encountered in Japan. The difference was only that one used swords while the other used guns. The temper was the same. But then again... things were different here. “You're right,” the doctor said finally. “Will you go to the Ambrosia Club today?” “You're not too happy about that, are you?” “I don't understand those clubs. I thought the west would be more advanced, but women are still... well... how do you say it? You know...” Oh, he did. Even though the west had brought out democracy and modern technology there were clubs for “gentlemen” which were off limits for women. O-Suzu had experienced this on several occasions and it hadn't really impressed her. Gentlemen. Charles knew that O-Suzu didn't like them. Gentlemen or samurai, it was the same thing for her. “I know,” the doctor replied, “but you see, the Ambrosia Club is a good place to keep in touch with the important people in the town. Important people have money, we treat them properly, they come to us when they have a problem. With that we make money and with that we can help those who don't have money.” The young woman lowered her gaze, then nodded once. “I know, I'm sorry. It's just... nevermind. I'm sorry.” “It's alright,” Charles said and watched her leaving the room.

Henry nodded a little but made no move to invite her along, he had no problem giving her a tour of the 'empire' as it was but not before he'd even seen it himself. If there were problems that needed to be fixed, he wanted to get them out of the way first. Instead he patience awaited Arties answer about his occupation, while enjoying the last few drops of tea from his cup but before that could happen, the man dozed off and Henry chuckled softly. "I think he might have the right idea.."
I..." Before he even knew it they'd removed the sleeping drunkard and Rose had excued herself from the room, not even giving Barton a chance to protest. Now siting alone with his cup of tea he spoke sarcasticlly to the room itself. "Oh Yes, I'm fine.. I'll enjoy this cup of tea just peachy.. Do take care of business, I'm just grand.. peachy.. perfect.. good." Then trailing off into indistinguishable mumbling before he drowned out his grumping with his cup of tea. Somehow Lost Haven was shaping up to be something totally different from what he'd expected, and already did he feel a bit like a fish out of water. But did it matter? He was here on business, yes business and thats all that really mattered, not drunkards or women. After a few minutes Burke finally found his way into the parlor where he nodded and greeted his boss. "All of the bags are squared away, I'll schedule the tour for tomorrow morning."
Henry nodded "Good, Good work.." he said while considering an idea he'd actually had in between listening to Arties drunken ramblings and tuning out. "Oh.. I wonder if it might be possible to have a little informal dinner tonight? You know, Have Mister Stevens here, perhaps our top mining engineer.." He inclined his head for a moment as he thought about anyone else he might want to talk to. "The Mayor Sir?" Burke shrugged, which immediately drew a reaction from Barton. "No no.." he said shaking his head, disturbed by the thought. "I wish to avoid the politicians for a day or two at the very least." Mostly because he wanted to get a better lay of the land before pitching his big ideas to the Mayor. Burke nodded. "I think that can be arranged, shall we have the dinner here?"
"Yes.." Henry said nodding "I'll handle those arrangements as.." before he could finish Barton aggressively rejected that idea. "No, I'll take care of that.. You're busy enough as it is." Unaware of the goofy smile that'd creased his lips again. Burke smirked and laughed at his boss. "Anything to talk to Miss Hollandale eh?" Noticeably Bartons cheeks began to redden. "That has nothing to do with it Mister Burke." Barton said protesting, puffing his chest out. "This is business, no more, no less."
Burke said nothing more on the issue, he just shook his head and snickered at his 'crush-struck boss' "Right, well I'll see who I can gather for this little event.. Good day Sir,"[/b] he said before tipping his hat and leaving the room again. Once more Barton was alone with his tea, which he took his time in finishing as the gears in his head worked out new plans not only for this place, but for some of the people as well. When one of the employee's did finally come through the Parlor, he flagged them down. "Excuse me.. I need to speak with Miss Manson." he said, his smile stretching from ear to ear.

He’d happen to grab Amy, the girl giggled and nodded. “You want Ms. Hollandale? I’ll go see if she’s available.” Amy gave a small curtsy and moved out of the room. She paused in the kitchens, asking if Jane had seen the Ms. Saying no, Amy continued her search, finding Rose frowning deeply at a pile of bills in her office, which was just out of site in the lobby area. “Miss, that guest, the hansom man, you know the one, just checked in? Well he says he’d like to speak with you!” Amy pressed her hands together smiling broadly. “Do you think he likes you Miss? He was all flushed when he asked for you!”
Rose looked up when Amy entered, frowning deeper as the girl talked. Standing she took off the apron she’d dawned when she’d moved Artie and done some light house work. She’d left it on while she looked at the bills. Now she untied it and laid it over the back of her chair. “Now don’t talk like that Amy. He’s a guest, and certainly not interested like that. Don’t go gabbing. It’s not lady like.” She chastised the younger woman. The girl nodded sheepishly. Rose continued speaking, even as they left the office. “I want to hear no more of this school girl nonsense. Go make yourself busy.” Rose ordered, brushing a loose hair back into her bun. She smiled and walked into the parlor, seeing Henry right where she’d left him. “ Is something the matter Mr. Barton? Henry.” She amended before he could correct her, her hands brushing dirt from her dress. “ What can I do for you sir?” She asked.
Amy hadn’t gone far, she was hiding in the door way, ease dropping on the Miss’ conversation, watching them closely.

"Yes.." Was his dumbstruck response, once again finding himself a bit tongue tied as Rose entered the room. "err I mean.." For a moment he'd forgotten why he'd asked for her actually. Falling silent he tried desperately to remember why he wanted her, blushing a little before it finally came back to him. "Oh! Yes.. I was wondering.. Could you host a special dinner for myself and.." Again pausing as he thought of who would be coming. "About.. four or five of us?" It was a simple request, but he had to fight himself from stumbing over his words. Finally he smiled gingerly at her, as he laid his hands atop the other on the table, his foot tapping nervously under the table.

Blinking a few times, Rose waited until Henry had found his tongue again. She smiled at him and nodded. “We’re slow enough I believe you could use the parlor, if it’s only four or five of you. I believe we can manage something.” Tilting her head, she nodded. “I’ll get Jane to start on something now.” Rose gave a small bow, and slipped away to the kitchens, after a quick discussion with Jane, in which she learned that the hotel was all giddy with Mr. Barton and his handsome features. Scolding Jane as well, Rose reminded the older woman that she ran a hotel, not a love shack. Jane just smirked and said she’d have a nice dinner ready at seven. Rose shook her head and walked back to Mr. Barton. “Sir, Jane will have your meal ready at seven sharp. Is that alright then?” Rose’s eyes trailed down Henry’s face, pausing on his freckles that sprinkled across his nose in the cutest way, down to his lips. She flushed, coughed to cover her embarrassment, and gave another bow. “I don’t wish to keep you sir.” She smiled again but didn’t leave the room. Even as her mind was screaming ‘GET OUT OF THERE’ but her feet seemed glued to the floor, perhaps she should see a Doctor. Maybe she was ill.

"erm.. Thank you kindly." Henry smiled, his tapping foot having become noticeably audible by now. As soon as she was out of the room he scolded himself again. "Damnit! Calm down, she's the host, there is no reaso nto ac..." Then she returned! Afraid that she'd busted him talking to himself, he blushed even worse! "OH, That's lovely.. really.." he forced a smile, hoping to conceal some of his embarrassment. As she made her attempt to excuse herself, an awkward silence fell over the room as neither budged from their respected spots. "I...."Bravely breaking the silence yet feeling a nervous lump grow in his throat. "erm.. You're not keeping me, I'm kind of on my own as it is.." swallowing back his fears, he was somewhat forward, atleast as forward as Henry could be. "And the company is quite nice.. so uhm...." But that was as far as he got, unsure of what else to say.

Alex chose that moment to return. He was angry. It was unfair. He threw his coat and hat on the counter of the Lobby. “Rose!” He shouted grinding his teeth together. He glared at Amy, who’d finally made herself busy behind the counter. She meekly pointed torts the parlor.
“Oh it’s you.” Alex said with dislike, noticing Barton sitting and Rose standing. The silence for a moment was thick between the two. Alex sighed and walked over to the mini bar that was at the corner of the room. Pouring himself three fingers of what ever alcohol Rose had stashed over there. “ I’m not interrupting any business am I?” Alex sneered into his drink downing it. After he’d left Red he’d stopped off and bought a bottle from the general store. He’d drank the entire thing before he got back to Rose. It was Rose he was mad at. It was her fault he couldn’t run like he always had. “ You should leave. I have business of my own to discuss with Litlte Miss Rose here.” Alex slammed the shot glass back down and stalked over to the woman, grabbing her by the arm. “Now, would be a good time.” Alex ordered.
The silence stretched between herself and Henry. Rose twitched her hands together. “ Oh good. I-don’t want to be a bother” She said at the same time he spoke of nice company. She flushed and moved to sit down, when the bell rang and she heard Alex call out for her. Rose, face still flushed turned with a guilty half smile, only to see Alex. Looking far worse then Rose had seen him in awhile. He was sweating, and dusty, (not surprising since he’d walked to the bar earlier) but he also had that leaning of one who’d been drinking too much. Rose was horrified with how rude her dearest friend was being. “ I’m sorry Henry, he’s not usually like this.” She whispered, then Alex made the sarcastic comment about ‘business’ implying that maybe there was a bit more of a whore house pleasurable business going on here. Rose felt tears prick at her eyes. Alex had never been like this to her. “Alex….please what’s going on?” She gave a small noise of protest when Alex grabbed her by the arm hard enough to bruise. “”Alex your hurting me!” Rose cried out horrified of the display of violence and anger that was radiating from Alex.

For a few moments it seemed that they were about to have a few nice moments alone when, That man burst into the lobby shouting for Rose. Siting up in his seat, Henry turned to glance at the doorway just as Alex barged in. Again it seemed as if he was just cursed with women, or atleast this one. "Yes, It's me.." he growled in response, not particularly liking the attitude of this uncivilized ruffian! "Don't apologize Rose," He stated drly, not seeing why she had to apologize for this dirty man. But Alex's next move even surprised him! "Unhand her! He shouted, springing up from his seat and reaching for Alex's wrist as he was obviously hurting her! The whole act was uncharacteristicly brave of Henry, if a bit foolish as he acted without thinking and the truth was? He didn't really know how to fight! The only threatening thing about Henry was the shiny nickel plated revolver that hung from his hip, "Do it Now!" It'd been Alex making the demands till this point but now there was a strange fury in Bartons eyes, enraged that a man could treat a woman in such away!

Barton shouted ‘unhand her! at Alex. The other man had reached for his wrist, Alex easily stepped out of the way. He could tell by the look of Barton that he wasn’t a fighter, and Red had taught him well. He turned slowly and looked the man over quickly. “ I told you to leave. .” Alex stated dryly. He wasn’t the fastest draw in town, but he didn’t have to be. Shoving Rose away from him, Alex slugged Barton, squarely in the nose. There was a small ‘crunch’ sound. “ “You come up in here, all high and mighty. Mind your own business Burton.” Alex shook his head at the woman and knelt and grabbed Rose by the elbow again. Starting to drag her out of the room.
Rose shook her head, “Henry don’t… she said not wanting him to get hurt. It was too late, Alex had pushed her down and punched him in the face. Rose landed hard on her butt, looking up at Alex in shock. She got to her knees and grabbed her hankie, sitting next to Barton, holding the rag to his nose, and looking him over. “Perhaps we should go to the see Doctor Franklin…” She said, touching Henry’s face lightly. But Alex had grabbed her by the elbow and dragged her to her feet. “Alex Manson you let go of me this instant.” She ordered, Alex turned "SHUT UP" and before any one knew what happened the sound of flesh hitting flesh rung through the air. Rose grabbed her cheek, tears slipping down her them. She took a deep breath and jerked free stepping away from her friend, and kneeling by Henry again. “Alex get out of my hotel. I will discuss this with you this evening. But do not show up in my hotel until you’ve sobered up.” Her voice was thick with tears.
“Rose…”Alex said, eyes wide and pain filled. “Rose I’m sorry I-“
“No. Just….just get out.” Again she ordered, not looking at Alex.
“Oh Sweet Jesus.” Alex whispered and shook his head. “I-I didn’t…oh I didn’t mean….” Alex stuttered and then fled from the room, obviously horrified by what he’d done.
“I swear to you Barton, he’s never been like that before. Something must be seriously wrong…Still I’m so, so very sorry about all this.” Mark had been drawn from the back by the shouting, he looked at her. “Every’thin okay Miss Rose?” He asked. Rose nodded. “Yes, thank you. Would you get some ice for Mr. Barton’s nose.” She asked, the man was gone and back in a flash. She took the ice, and wrapped it in the hankie, pressing it to the bridge of Barton’s nose.

Of all the miles he'd travled with his two Pinkerton Security Agents the one time he actually ran into trouble, where were they? Nowhere to be found of course. Alex's punch connected up neatly with Henrys face sent him flying backwards, falling against and over with his chair all in a very dramatic fashion. The blow had knocke his senses around considerably, and it took a few moments before he regained his bearings otherwise he would've drawn his pistol and thrown it at Alex, considering it wasn't loaded anyway. Coming around he rolled over onto his side, he felt of his nose which was very tender to say the least"You punched me!" he snapped glaring at the man above him just as Rose knealt down beside him, which was quite comforting. "High and mighty?" he scoffed, his eyes deadlocked on Alexes. "I'm not the one barging in barking orders!" Henry was nearly beside himself trying to keep his temper in check becuase the things he really wanted to say were not proper in front of a lady like Rose.
"Thank you.." Henry said meekly, accepting the hankie and keeping it against his nose, which was bleeding a little bit. He shivered slightly at her faint touch, but before he had anytime to really enjoy it Alex escalated the situation and tried dragging her to her feet, Henry reacted but not before he heard the dinstinctive sound of flesh hitting flesh which surprised even Barton who'd been assaulted by the man! But it didn't stand with her, as she told him to get out and in short order he did just that. Again she was at his sigh and he sighed softly "No, I shouldn't have taken up your time.." he grumbled, feeling a bit jinxed and humiliated by the other man. It wasn't her fault, it was the fault of his Pinkerton agents! if only they'd been there for him. "It's alright.. wiat.. are you alright?" His eyes showing an obvious concern for her as he gazed at her, even though she was trying to help him. "Ow! that stings.. I.. Dont know.. maybe I should see the Doctor? I've.. never broken anything.. Is it broke? The Doctor should make sure its not broke I think.."

“No no, Really, it wasn’t a bother, I don’t know what Alex’s problem is.” She said, looking at the door way where he’d gone, another tear or two slipping down her cheeks. “In all the time I’ve known him…” She shuddered, and wiped at her eyes. “Yes, yes, I’m alright, just a slap.” She swallowed thickly, she didn’t feel alright, she felt hurt and sad. But brushing the aside she helped Henry to his feet. Touching his cheek again. “Oh Henry, I really am sorry.” She sighed, and shook her head. “Come on, I’ll take you to Doctor Franklin.” She said, then turned snapping at Macy. “You’ll watch the front desk, if Alex tries to step one foot in this hotel while still drunk, you get Mark. He’ll take care of it.” She barked, then turned her attention back to Henry. She looked up at him, and tried to smile, feeling the stinging of her cheek. She touched it lightly, it was tender to the touch. Rose hoped she wouldn’t get a bruise. But never mind her, she had a guest to worry about. “I don’t think it’s broken, your nose that is,” She looked up at him again. “And your stay is free. Don’t worry about paying. I can’t believe this happened. Really.” She couldn’t seem to apologize enough.

Slowly getting up to his feet with a faint groan he gave Rose a look. "Just a slap?" Henry said frowning unable to comprehend that a man could even lay a hand on such an angel. Touching his cheek again, she sent another shiver down his spine. It'd been ages since anyone had touched him really, so even the smallest of touches was heaven. "Really.. Don't be sorry. It's not your fault." he tried to assure her, and he didn't blame her of course. Though he didn't understand the relationship with her boyfriend or whatever he was, it wasnt her responsibility as far as what he did. Somehow he wanted to do something for her, but.. He wasn't sure really, again as he felt his nose which stung like the dickens! "I.. Its tender.. Maybe it'll be okay.. You think It'll be okay? I think that'd be good enough for me." he said with a small smile, as even that hurt! Henry swallowed, looking down at her as the mark on her face grew a brighter red by the moment. "Free?" He responded weakly before protesting. 'No.. I can't accept that.. I'm a customer, and I'm going to pay my bill.. Don't let your man-friend-person-thingy cause anymore damage then he already has.. I'm paying my dues and thats that." He said matter of factly, while trying to skate around the status of Alex and Rose. "Alright?" He asked, offering a small smile as he reached up and lightly ran his thumb down her tender cheek.
