The look he received from O-Suzu was more then a bit startling and for the life of him he didn't know what he'd done to deserve it! Henry blinked and looked at her in such a way that might've said "what'd I do??" It was quite perplexing, and for a woman? She was quite intimidating! But soon he looked again to Franklin who was quite sharp and amusing, a rarity in Boston it seemed. But he laughed a little at his comment. "Yes, There was one good one out of the rest I admit." he said smiling.
"Well, You might argue with me but I think you have a right to consider yourself wise." He complimented while spying some of the Doctors tools, before another issue clicked with him. "Oh.. What do I owe you for this?" Then another one clicked. 'I have no money on me..' he looked to Rose for a moment, obviously uncomfortable given that fact.

Rose saw his panicked look and walked closer patting his arm. "Doctor, the Hotel will pay for any and all charges." Her voice was soft and she kept her eyes steady for a momenton the doctor's face. Then she let them fall to the floor and stepped back tords the door. "Uh, Henry, if you don't mind. I'll let you and Dr. Franklin catch up, I've to start on...that engagement." She said tactfully. "I'll check in tomorrow to see how much we owe you." She gave a small curtsy and started to leave.

O-Suzu finished her work. Raising a brow she noticed how Rose seemed to simply... slip out of the room. What was she afraid of? At least, that was what O-Suzu assumed. People usually only slipped out of a room in such a silent way if they were either afraid or felt uncomfortable. But oh well, it wasn't really her problem, was it?
“No need to worry about that, Mister Barton. You pay when you can.” Doctor Franklin knew that O-Suzu didn't like such a way of dealing with money. That was one of the things she had learned from O-Hina. He, too, noticed Rose leave. “Don't worry...” but it was too late, she was already gone from the room.

"uh.. No no you don't have to." Barton protested Roses attempts to take care of all of this, it surely wasn't a problem as he had the money of course. But once she was gone he looked again to the Doctor, a little embarrassed by Rose and his own lack of money on hand. "I'll send someone over to pay the bill, I don't usually carry much money on me out here." It was usually safer that way. "I suppose I should start.. But I do appreciate it Doctor." he said smiling, before getting up onto his feet. "Perhaps we could have a drink sometime as well?" Franklin was certainly an interesting man, something that seemed to be a rarity as far as Bostonites seemed to go, and Henry was certainly interested in getting to know him a little better.

“That's alright. O-Suzu here will handle the financial part,” the doctor replied having a short look at the young woman who bowed her head a bit when her name was mentioned. Then she, too, slipped out of the room closing the door behind her. “A drink? Now I wouldn't mind that, Mister Barton.” Oh no, he certainly wouldn't. “Oh, and Mister Barton, try to avoid random fists. It's better that way on the long run.” Though, he was wondering what a young man from the East Coast was doing in such a place, especially when he had enough money.
---
Meanwhile Vandervoort was approaching the Five Graces. The marshal was right, at least seemed to be right. From the outside it looked quite nice, even comfortable. He stopped and tied his horse to a pole. Calmly he removed the long box from the saddle. After shoving it under his left arm he took the few steps up to the entrance and stopped. There Vandervoort took a deep breath. Yes, this didn't seem to be such a bad place. Then he opened the door and entered the Five Graces.

Henry smiled and nodded politely to the Doctor. "Thank you, I'll try to keep that in mind." He offered his hand to Franklin. "Maybe tomorrow evening you can show me to one of the nicer establishments in this town?" Of course Barton knew nothing of the Saloons and gambling houses in Lost Haven, and he certainly ddin't want to end up in the wrong one.

A little tour through the nightlife of Lost Haven? The young Barton was looking for more troubles, wasn't he? Damn, now he was already thinking like O-Suzu. But then again, given the fact that any rabid ronin or low ranking samurai could have killed her or others of her class without having to fear any consequences had influenced her. He couldn't blame her. “Tomorrow. Now that's a good idea, son. As long as there are no further accidents.”

The man stifled a chuckle and grinned at the Doctor. "I'll try to keep out of trouble, but its funny.. I hired two body guards from Pinkerton to accompany me out here.. and where were they in all of this?" The question was more rhetorical then anything, as the answer seemed obvious to him. "Who knows." he shrugged, "But have a good day Doctor, Ma'am." Politely he smiled and nodded at them both, especially making extra effort to seem friendly to O-Suzu since she seemed to dislike him for some reason. Letting himself out of the Office he replaced his hat as he stepped out to the edge of the sidewalk and street, taking a moment to survey main street, making mental notes of the stores, location of the church and any other landmarks.
But as he was about to step out into the street his ears perked as he was barraged by the sound of hooping and a hollering mixed with the sound of heavy footfalls of a galloping horse, looking quickly to his left he caught sight of a horse bearing down on him and quickly he took a step back, narrowly avoiding being mowed down by the fast riding rider with his blue sash dancing widly from his waist. "Yeeehaa! yeah! get em!"[/b] the man cried who was soon followed by another Cowboy with a blue sash tied around his waist riding just as fast. Henry breathed a startled sigh of relif unsure if he was lucky or cursed at this point.

“Good day, Mr Barton,” the doctor replied politely. Interesting young man. Rich, yet he decides to leave Boston and come here. Quite interesting. It was somewhat familiar, wasn't it? Not only the Franklins had their black sheep, no, it seemed that even the Bartons had one. Amusing. “Good day sir.” That was O-Suzu's voice and soon after it she appeared in the room and went to work again. “You scared him,” he remarked. Without stopping the young woman replied “No, I didn't.”Franklin shook his head. “Oh, you did, I could see it in his eyes.”Then she stopped. “It's not my fault that they always assume me to be your daughter or your lover. Or maybe even both.” There were people like that. Doctor Franklin nodded twice. “Mhmm, mhmm, mhmm.” He had noticed this himself as well. People would always assume that O-Suzu was somehow related to him, either as a daughter or... “Just ignore them.” “I'm trying.” Then she quickly changed the topic. “Will you go drinking with him?”He knew too well that O-Suzu didn't like alcohol very much. She had seen what it did to people and had experienced some of the problems connected to it herself. “Showing him around a bit, introducing him to the important people, yes. I will do that. But that doesn't mean we're going to paint the town red.”Her brown eyes focused on him. At this moment she always reminded him of O-Hina, but there was a significant difference. They looked nothing alike. “Shall I be waiting for you?” “No, you're young, you need your sleep.” She would wait anyway. She always did. “Are you planning in visiting Beauregard's?” “Possibly.”At that she nodded just once. When they had been in Boston, and Franklin had spent a little more time with a woman of a certain profession, O-Suzu's reaction had surprised him a bit. He had known before that she didn't like prostitutes. But then he had learned that she loathed them. Them and the men who supported such a system. It was not a surprise. Back in Japan, when the Tokugawa still reigned the country, female criminals would sometimes be sentenced to serve their punishment in a brothel. It usually hit women of lower birth, women like O-Suzu. Any samurai woman would rather have killed herself than falling that low. But women like O-Suzu didn't get such a choice. Franklin watched her leave the room. It wasn't always easy. Even after all those years of learning from each other, their cultures were still different, their opinions often extremely conflicting. Franklin wasn't a political man. He believed in freedom, alright, believed in the American constitution and in the oath he took as a doctor. The samurai hadn't meant much to him, they had been customers, patients, just like anybody else. O-Suzu on the other hand... He remembered her reaction when the war between the Shogun and the Emperor had started. She had almost been cheering. She had loathed the samurai and their ways. The Emperor had been promising. Opening the country, learning new things, driving out the samurai... He remembered her reaction at the news of Saigo's death. Her eyes had lightened up. It had surprised him. Until that moment he hadn't known how much she had loathed the old system. He took a seat in the chair in front of the small desk. And now they were here, in America, and certain things were just the same as in Japan. Oh well. She would have to adapt, there was nothing he could do in that aspect. And, given O-Suzu's curiosity and intelligence, she would certainly adapt. So... Barton wanted to get to know the town a bit better? That could be helped, certainly. --- Vandervoort had eventually entered the Five Graces. It certainly looked comfortable from inside. Maybe it was really suitable for his needs. He made his way up to the counter, leaned the box against it and placed his hands on the surface of the counter. “Excuse me. I require a room and I do hope that you have a suitable one vacant.”

Macy looked up from the counter blond curls bouncing 'round her face. ""Hello, welcome to the Five Grace's Hotel!" her voice rang out high and girlish and cheerful. She smiled brightly at him, she was about to open her mouth to answer when bell above the door gave a little 'tinkle' of hello. Rose entered using a handkerchief to wipe the bead of sweat on her brow. "My but it's getting warm." She looked up and seeing a guest smiled at him. "I'll take over Macy," Rose stepped behind the counter as Macy smiled again at the man and slipped away to help Jane in the kitchen. " I'm certain we have a room suitable for you. Now, price does vary on how many nights your wishing to stay. But on whole there is one King room left and that's two dollars per night but that includes breakfast which is at Seven every morning and super is at seven-eight. If your staying a week then it'll be seven dollars and that includes stabling for a horse if you need it. Two weeks is twelve fifty. And anything longer then that we can discus further payment." She smiled looking the man over.

Interesting, wasn't it? This place was swarming with women. Very nice, very nice indeed. For a second Vandervoort wondered if any of them needed to be pacified, but then his logic sense took over again. This had to wait. In fact, it could way, since right now it wasn't really his foremost interest. This town was full of garbage and it seemed that some people weren't too happy about that. Those twelve fifty for two weeks, which was a lot of money for all the peasants, meant little compared to what this town could bring for him, especially for a man with his particular skills. “For two weeks then, Miss. Breakfast at seven, now that sounds absolutely perfect.” He leaned the long cylindrical box carefully against the counter, it was a rather unusual thing for most people. “Where do I have to sign?”

Giving him a bright smile, Rose pulled the log book out from under the desk and turned it to him. " It's cash up front I'm afraid and if you'll just sign here?" she pointed to the line right under Cornelius Barton's group. "Now, Jenny will show you to your room sir." Rose said as she spotted Jenny come around the corner.
Jenny hearing her name came around to the desk. Her dark brown hair tied back in a smart bun, her pug nose up in the air a little and her eyes just a touch too far apart. She wasn't the most attractive of girls, or the smartest, but she was sweet. Jenny smiled at the man, and turned to Rose. " What room miss?"
" Take him up to room twelve if you will. I believe that will suit you nicely Mr...?" She trailed off with a smile.

Vandervoort took off his right glove and signed the book silently. Of course, this gave him a good opportunity to have a short look at who else was there. A couple of men, together with a Barton guy who had arrived just today, what were the chances of that? What were they guarding? What had they brought to this town? Questions and more questions. “Vandervoort, George Vandervoort,” he replied when finishing the signing up. “Room twelve. What do you know, twelve is my lucky number.” Smalltalk, not necessarily something he liked, but he had learned that it served its purpose. Growing up in the high society of New York had its advantages.

As soon as Mr. Vandervoort was done signing the register Rose pulled it away and put it up. She smiled at him. " Then welcome Mr. Vandervoort, and please enjoy your stay at the Five Grace's Hotel. I do ask, that if you wish to....indulge in any...lewd pastimes, you don't bring it here." Rose said softly, but firmly. "My friend...Alex, would be glad to show you where to go, when he shows up." She gave him a small curtsy and let Jenny lead him away.
"It's on the third floor sir." Jenny said, careful to not look at him. Something about this man made her terribly nervous. But then, most men did. She stopped in front of the second door on the right. "This is it. If you need anythin' don't hesitate to ask one of us. And if you want your room cleaned there's a little sign inside, just hang that on the door." Jenny kept staring at her black boots.

It'd been a very cautious walk back from Doctor Franklins Office for Henry, having almost been ran over by a insane cowboy. And then there was the thought as to whether or not that Alex fellow was still around. Yes, Henrys nose was still a bit tender from that! The ruffian bastard, no manners and certainly not a gentlemen. But nevertheless Henry let himself into the Hotel Lobby just as Rose was signing in a new guest. Typically Henry wouldn't have paid such an event any mind and if anything? He'd been focusing his gaze on Rose probably but.. This 'guest' was different and caused Henry to pause just inside the lobby. He stood back for a few moments, observing the man from behind though as soon as Vandenvoort looked his way Henry would of coursemake sure it didn't appear that he was gawking.. But for some reason the presence of this man didn't sit well in Henrys gut.
