Nodding Rose easily slipped about the room, and into the kitchen.
"Jane?" The other woman was ready, and after a moment they stepped out into the dinner area again, with Janes help they got the first serving of fruit and a cold soup dished out. The soup was a nutty cream soup that set off the fruit. Rose had found the recipe in a book Alex had bought for her a few years back. Most of the recipes were in english but the stories and things were all in french. Jane slipped back into the kitchen and Rose back into the lobby.
---- Alex finally coming home from his wild ride out to the country wiped his hat and smiled as he stepped in. Rose glared at him, glanced back into the parlor, noted everything was going fine and pulled him towards the stairs to talk.
"What are you doing home so late? I was worried about you! You shouldn't have hit Mr. Barton!" Rose gushed quietly.
"I know Rose, I'll apologize later. Is...what's that?" He said, hearing voices he turned walked towards the parlor. Steppin in he saw the group.
Rose, trying hard not to panic, grabbed his arm gentlly and smiled at the group. "Sorry to interrupt." She said before Alex could do something manish and stupid.
"Ah...yes...I...was just wishing to speak to Mr." and then Alex realized he couldn't remember fancy pants name.
"Let me get you more tea." Rose said when she noted several of the glasses were low.
"But never mind it can wait. I see your having guests treating the Lady of the Hotel like a common slave..." Alex glared at Barton before turning and storming out of the room.
"I am so sorry." Rose said to the group of men, horrified Alex would do that in front of them. She gave a small bow and slipped away. When she was done Rose found him on the porch smoking.
"What were you thinking?!" She hissed.
"Aw Rose, I'm sorry...I didn't know he'd be havin' a fancy meal. Why's he makin' you wait on him!? We have staff for a reason!" Alex said gruffly. Feeling that maybe, since this fancy pants was making Rose wait on him like a slave, he didn't need to say he was sorry.
"He didn't *make* me do anything. He's a respectable gentlemen and he wanted a nice meal. I offered and as head of the Hotel it's my duty to make sure it's right. It's an honor to wait on him and his guests."
"What ever. I'm going to Beauregard's." Alex snapped and stopped away. Rose pressed a hand to her eyes and took a few deep breaths before returning to the lobby. S

“Amazing tales, Mr Barton? Oh no, god forbid, I leave those to the people who write those dime novels. I'm just a normal guy trying to live his life... and blow up stuff. Some people, though, might consider Indians trying to steal my horse an amazing tale. But Lucy has her own mind, so they never got far with her. T'was back up in the north, not far from Deadwood.” Harry's right hand moved up and started twirling the right tip of his mustache. “You know, Mr Barton, I never really liked gold. So I didn't stay up north for long. Coal and iron, much more interesting. Silver, too. But gold, so soft, so easy to see. Anyone can mine it. And people get so horribly greedy over it.”
At that Harry stopped. “I'm sorry, I'm rambling again. Dinner, sounds like a good idea. I could eat a horse. But I rather not eat Lucy. You could kill her, cook her and she'd still kick you.” Though, what was the most amazing tale? It was unlikely that Barton would understand it. Harry had, just once, met general Lee.

"Thank you," Henry said politely bowing to Rose and her staff as they broughtout the first serving, before shifting his attetion back to Lefcourt. It was defintly not as exciting as he'd hoped it'd be, but the remark about his horse prompted a short chuckle. The town of Deadwood however clicked immediately, but the way it sounded he probably didn't visit that exciting place either. "Yes.. Yes Gold does strange things to men." he said in response, taking a sip of his tea. "No doubt, I've seen more men killed over Gold over the years working this mining town, He prefers silver.. I prefer copper." Stevens said, he'd worked a lot of the boom towns over the years and had seen it all.
'Oh no!" Henry chirped, waving his hand at Lefcourt. "You're perfectly fine." The remark about his horse bounced around in Henrys mind for a moment before he cracked a slight chuckle. "Well.. I'm sure the food will be to your standard, Miss Hollandale has assured me her..." And thats when Alex cut in with his remarks, Henry both blushed slightly and glared at the man. HIM?! Again?! Goddamnit! Henry was far from a violent man, but if this man kept being a problem he had half a mind to ask one of his guards to shoot him! "erm.. Im sorry for that.." He said uncomfortably, shifting in his seat before trying to shift the subject. "Uh.. Oh yes, What do you prefer as your sidearm Mr. Lefcourt?"

“Silver and copper, eh,” Harry mused rubbing his beard. Then he observed the short exchange between Barton and that Rose woman. Nice girl, really. “I'm not too worried about the standard of the food, Mr Barton. Anything's better than living out of saddlebags for a while.” But then somebody else had to pop up. Now who was that idiot throwing around odd remarks? It forced Harry to raise a bushy eyebrow. The village idiot? Most likely, every town had one of those. Though, there were towns that consisted of idiots. Luckily, there came a more interesting question. “Sidearm?” Harry finally said. “Oh ehm... I don't carry one. Never needed one. Not even in the war.”

The thought of a man in the west not carrying a sidearm was unimaginable in Henrys mind! "Uh.. uh.." he stuttered a bit, shifting in his seat. "What do you do about the injuners and coyotes?? Surely they're a problem sometimes." And of course he knew the reports that a band of renegade apaches were lurking in the mountains, sometimes giving their operations hell though rarely. Stevens meanwhile cracked a chuckle at the naive man across from him. "See Mr. Barton, what you have to understand is.. A man like Lefcourt doesnt need a gun, hell he doesnt need a pole when he goes fishin', Isnt that right Harry?"

“Indeed,” Harry said. And then he pulled out the stick once more. “Mr Barton, do you really think that any Indians or other rabble-rousers would even think of getting close to one that is like... let's say... this?” With that he lit the fuse. “Oh no, those that can think would quickly make a run.” It was a fifteen second fuse. “Works for almost anything. Indians, coyotes and yes... fishing. Very useful. Also, it keeps annoying people away.” Then, after wetting his finger with his tongue, he extinguished the fuse when it had reached just two or three seconds before the big boom. “And it's all a matter of timing.”

Immediately Henry eyes went wide as the fuse began to burn down at a very uncomfortable rate. But before even he could react with panic, his number two Lucas Burke fell backwards out of his chair as he scrambled for cover and Stevens backed his seat up, despite being used to the explosions this was not something he felt comfortable with either. "Uh Mister Lefcourt.." Henry stuttered, quickly pushing himself out from the table and rising to his feet. Was this man insane?! Had he been in the mountains blowing up stuff to long?! Oh no! What about Rose? Oh how could he live with himself if this man blew up her hotel? Or worse?? Her! or Henry!
'Pl...lee...a.. Please put that out?" his voice was shaky with fear. At what seemed like the last possible moment, the man put the fuze out and there was a collective sigh of relief from the room. "Thank you.." Henry said as a bead of sweat fell from his forehead. "I'm glad you're on my side.." If he ever had to blow someone up? Well this would be the man to do it. Henry broke his gaze away from Lefcourt, scanning the room for Rose.. Oh what if she'd seen that? The fear in his face? Oh how could he live with himself?

After Alex's embarrassing tirade Rose had squared her shoulders and moved right on. She'd brought out the food and smiled politely. All in all, she thought Mr. Barton's night was going quiet well from the look of it. She'd been bringing more tea and water out when that crazy Lefcourt man had lit dynamite. REAL dynamite in her hotel. She clenched her teeth and, lucky for him he put it out because as she got closer she was planning to pour the whole pitcher of water over his head. Anything to make sure she didn't loose her hotel. Her thoughts went in two directions, eyes darting around. 'My hotel' and then 'Henry will be blown away' the first she allowed, the second thought she squished quite quickly.
As it was, and with Barton's men ducking for cover and Henry, Mr. Barton that was, asking him to put it out. It was all over fairly quickly. And it turned out She needn't do anything. However, to avoid further moments of panic, she stopped at the table.
"Mr. Lefcourt, while I don't doubt your abilities to control that" Rose nodded to the stick in his hand "and I am sure you are a very talented man when it comes to explosives. However, I fear that example was a touch to harsh, please, no more lighting dynamite in my hotel." Offering him another smile, she said it as politely as she could.

Harry noticed the commotion he had caused. “What? It's just dynamite. It's not the black plague or cholera.” Then he shook his head. “No problem Ms Rose. No more dynamite in here.” Though, weren't those people with their guns more dangerous? It way very likely that guns were the cause of death for a lot more people in the West than dynamite. People were always so nervous when dynamite was around. Annoying. And totally uncalled for!
“Oh no Mr Barton, I'm on no one's side.”

"People tend to be more afraid of things that go boom then things carried by rats Mister Lefcourt." Stevens pointed out, despite the fact that both had killed more people then dynamite had or ever would. Henry shifted nervously in his seat listening to the exchanges between Lefcourt, Stevens and then Rose. How embarrasing that could've been, one of his guests blowing up Roses Hotel! Finally he cracked a nervous chuckle, trying to relax while trying to decide what to make of Lefcourts remark.
"Why? Because nobody is on yours?" Well he was puzzled, the man DID work for him.. Wasn't that enough? You could buy someone's loyalty yes?

No more dynamite, however, didn't mean no TNT... Though, Miss Rose would likely considered TNT and dynamite to be the same, so getting into a discussion about it was pointless. And Stevens had a point with what he said about the plague. Nevertheless... Wait, what was that? “That is correct, Mr Barton,” Harry replied, “that is correct.”

Henry was left rather speechless by Lefcourt. He just wasn't sure what to say to his remark. It wasn't like he was a lose cannon who could go off on him or the company.. Right? "Um.. well.." He chuckled rather awkwardly. "As long as you don't go blowing me up, I think we'll get along just fine!" It wasn't the best joke in the world but..
Clearing his throat he took a sip from his cup. "If we can get these efficiency defects under control, I think Lost Haven will have a bright future indeed." Now he was just trying to shift the conversation back to business.

Harry's expression changed to being a bit hurt. “Now why would I do that? And if I would do it, I promise you wouldn't realize it until you'd already have wings.” Then he burst into laughter. “Mr Barton, I know what I'm doing. Learned my trade in Pennsylvania at Hazard Mining and spent my life blowing holes into mountains. Great man the old Hazard was. His youngest son, George, too. Just his oldest was a bit of a loon. Greedy bugger. Heard he sold faulty cannons to them Yanks in the war and tried to blame his brother.” He was losing track, his gaze became a bit zoned out. Then Harry sighed. “Damn shame that war, really.” His hand reached for his drink. “But luckily it's over, right? On to new adventures and success.”
