The lantern's had been set to low, they'd brought one of the big tables into the parlor and made sure that it was covered. Everything was going well and according to plan. Jane had cooked a wonderful meal, (that in truth would be costing Miss Rose a pretty penny.) But it was all set up and done. There were two candles at the table.
Rose herself, after she'd helped Henry to the doctor's hand changed into a pale green dress stiched with dark forest green stripes, it brought out her eyes, Alex had said. She felt a twinge of anger and sadness and worry, Alex had been gone all day and now it was turning to night. At least eh'd taken her seriously. She swallowed thickly and returned to the mirror, pinching her cheeks viggrously and then applying a thin line of Koel to the bottom of her eye. She looked at herself. The line was shaky and she tried to wipe it off. It only came part way off leaving a small black stain. She sighed it would have to do. She turned away from the mirror. She'd unbound her hair from it's bun, and brushed the curls free before pulling half of it back up. Half of it landed in waves down her back, the other half was in a neat bun, keeping most of it away from her eyes and face.
Touching a bit of perfume that Alex, her stomach churned at the thought and she ignored it, had bought her some years ago. She wanted this night to go perfect for Mr. Barton. She planned on waiting on them personally. Exiting her bedroom she passed through the kitchen. Jane was putting the last few finishing touches on the soup, and Mark was pulling one of her famous pies hot out ofthe oven. "Everything's set up and ready then? They'll be here soon..."
"Yes miss, evah-thin' is jus about reada." Jane nodded and patted Roses arm. "Though I still think ya shouldn't be doin' the servan misstress."
"Non-sense. You've had a long day and they're my guests. You should go home.Rose said, butshe knew that Jane would stay to help clean up after all was said and done. Jane nodded and shook her head going back to cooking.
Rose slipped out of the kitchen and headed to the Parlor looking for Henry, Mr Barton, she corrected her thoughts. It was one thing to call him henry when he wasn't around important people. She wouldn't make a fool of him, or herself, infront of his guests.

While preparations were on going down stairs, Henry was up in his room making the final adjustments to his collar that just didn't seem to be cooperating tonight. "Damn thing.." he muttered fiddlign with his collar then other perceived imperfections with his vest, coat and pants. Perhaps a full length mirror was a bad thing? Nevertheless he finally settled for what seemed good enough, enough for him anyway. Thanks to Doctor Franklin his nose was doing better as he'd been able to dispense of the cotton from his nostrils and if he was lucky? He'd be able to make it through dinner without bleeding everywhere!
"mm I think that'll do.." he remarked to himself as he turned away from the mirror. Henry had only really thought about it earlier, but this was the first time he'd had dinner with any meaningful number of people in ages, not since Boston probably. The upside to this event was that he was doing it with interesting people who were real, not phonies like back home in Boston.
But as interested as he was to find out what it was really like for these frontiersmen, this was about business so that'd have to take priority over pleasure. Silently he stood in the middle of the room, trying to recall anything he might've missed but everything seemed in order, so leaving his room he trotted down the grand-staircase to make his way down to the parlor. Despite the earlier days events he was rather chipper, the whole incident with Alex having faded from his mind for the most part.
That'd been helped by the fact he hadn't seen the man, plus? Rose had been rather accommodating to him since then, not that she had to but.. It was awfully nice of her regardless. As he stepped off the staircase and into the lobby he spotted Rose through the doorway leading to the parlor and the sight of her, dressed up and ready for the ocassion was truly stunning. "I.. R... err.. Rose.." Barton stutered, a faint shade of pink invading his cheeks, the cat firmly had his tongue! "How are you?"

Fingers brushing over her gown as she looked for last minute details. However her staff seemed to have covered everything. She sighed and stepped away from the table. Hearing her name she looked up to see Henry, Mr. Barton, standing on the last step. He looked a little pink, and Rose felt herself heat up in the cheeks. He looked simply, well...dashing really. Realizing she was stairing she quickly tore her gaze away. Dropping a small curtsy at him the moving forword.
" Henry, Mr. Barton. You look...oh your collor. Here let me." Reching up, standing a bit on the toes of her boots, she adjusted his collar and smoothed it down. " There. You look..." She flushed again and realized just how close she was to him. She moved to pull away, hands brushing down his shoulder then smoothing the front of his jacket as well. Stepping away from him as quickly as possible, Rose turned and led him into the parlor.
" I hope everything is to your liking. Jane made a wonderful meal and I'll be serving you myself." she said, swallowing. "If you, or your...guest need anything I'll be here to ask. And if there's anything I've fogotten you letme know." Rose closed her eyes and turned her face away, she was rambling her words stringing together. Oh dear.

For a moment Henrys jaw dropped as his eyes inspected her closely, taking note of every detail of her dress, makeup and hair. It was a dramatic difference from the woman he'd met only hours before. It took a moment before he realized he too was staring. "erm.. uh.." he trailed off blinking before he foudn the words again. "A good evening to.." Before he had a chance to bow she was on him making adjusments to his collar, smoothing it down and fixing what he'd been unable to apparently. The gesture made him blush and sutter even more. "Uhm er.. Yes.. Thank you.. really kindly.. That.." He cleared his throat, trying to regain some sense of control as he followed her into the parlor. "I mean.. You look buea.. lov.. Lovely tonight! Yes Lovely." he said nervously smiling, then coughing once.
Now his attetion was divided between her and the dinner table she'd set out for tonights little event. "oh.. uhm.." Henry surveyed the table, trying to think of anything she might've missed or more liekly he'd forgotten to mention but finally he looked to her again, smiling. "It's perfect." he said, finally getting out a few words without rambling!

If she hadn't been so busy being nervous herself she might have noticed how nervous Henry seemed to be. Rose did notice his nervousness a little bit but assumed that was for his party. She gave another small curtsy. Finding that her tounge had gone dry and she knew of nothing to say.
"I...Thank you. We're glad to be able to help you, Mr. Barton." Rose stated hands gripping the back of one of the chairs. "when do you think your guests will be arriving? Her heart slamed against her chest. She scolded herself, inwordly for being silly. But at that moment there seemed to only be two people in the entire hotel.
Then Jane slipped out of the kitchen. "Ya two might stop gawking at each'der long 'nuff to do sumtin usefull."
Once more heat flooded Roses face. She gripped hers sides and hissed warningly at Jane. " Jane! Shh, we weren't gawking. Don't be rude!" Jane srugged her shoulders and placed the last china on the table.
((...Jane's become jamacan in my head...how the hell didthat happen!?))

Nervously Henry shifted from foot to foot as he distracted himself from her by checking out the table again. "You've done a lot.." he remarked, absently watching one of the forks on the table. "Just like home." The thought made him smile a little, though Boston wasn't ideal it was still his home and certain creature comforts would be missed. Looking at her again he smiled as she asked a question. "Well..." Reaching into his pocket he withdrew a gold antique pocket watch and checked the time. "By my estimation another ten minutes or so."
Janes remarks were totally unexpected, and if he could've turned any redder? he would've looked like he'd been out in the sun all day naked! "Oh dear.." he swallowed, clearing his throat while turning away from the spectacle that they were quickly becoming.

Swallowing thickly she shifted from foot to foot. "I'm terribly sorry about that Mr. Barton." And then she slipped away into the kitchen for a moment to give Jane a good stern talking to. She returned about five minutes later, but that left her with five minutes alone with Mr. Barton.
"Here, please, sit. i'll get you some tea." She nodded to the head of the table where he'd sit.

"Think nothing of it.." Henry murmured under his breath while sparing Rose a nod as she excused herself from the room. "That was so nice." he remarked to himself as he replaced his pocket watch and began pacing about the room absently, looking at the few things that hung on the wall, killing time until the guests or Rose returned. Of course Rose returend first. "Oh, Thank you." he said graciously as he nodded and accepted the offered seat. "Tea? Yes that'd be lovely.."

A hot bath. Now, that was a thing, wasn't it? Harry had had his clothes cleaned and had taken a bath. He had even had a shave, at least on those parts of his face that weren't covered by his mustache and goatee. Seven, that was the time to attend Barton's little dinner. It would certainly be interesting. As he made his way towards the Five Graces he took to observing the surrounding area. Ah, such towns were always interesting. Always... well... interesting. Towns weren't really his thing anyway. Using dynamite wasn't what people in such towns usually liked. It was too loud, too dangerous, too whatever. Townspeople, what did they know. Oh well. Harry shrugged, then put his foot on the few steps up to the Five Graces. Quickly he was at the door, opened it and entered. “Good day everybody.”

Carefully Rose poured Henry his tea and adding just this side of too much sugar. It'd been the way he fixed it ealier today, was that just today, she wondered, when Artie had stopped by. Hearing the tinkle of the bell above the door Rose gave another curtsy to Henry. "Please, excuse me for a moment." She said with another shy smile at him then turned and slipped out of the parlor.
She stepped into the Lobby with a smile. "Hello, are you part of Mr. Barton's party orare you looking for a room?" She asked, looking him over. No bags. She would guess that he was for the party. "Welcome to the Five Grace's Hotel. I'm Rose." She gave another poliet curtsy and breifly wondered how many times tonight she'd be doing that.

Henry smiled curtly and nodded. "Thank you." While she excused herself he took a sip from his tea, it was a little on the sweet side but nothing he could protest about really. As he waited for her return he wondered for a bit about who Lucas Burke and Stevens would end up bringing to the dinner tonight. Hopefully it wouldn't be a dull evening, entertaining and productive was what he was looking for tonight.

It didn't take much for Harry to get started up. He was here, at the Five Graces, at the appointed time. Of course he was there for Barton's dinner party, what else? Dear god, some people were dense! Dense... Dynamite worked well on dense. Though, there were different forms of dynamite. Harry took off his head, it was time to blow up some dynamite. He liked dynamite, oh yes he did. Harry Lefcourt took off his hat. “Ah... No ma'am. I'm sorry, but I'm here... Ah... You know ma'am. I was sent here by Basset Industries about demolishing this building so that they can build... a new factory for ah... bedsprings.” Of course he was just joking, but jokes could turn into dynamite as well.

Roses breath caught in her throat for a moment. She forced a weak chuckle. " Right, w-well, I thought that wasn't due for another weak." She stammered, joking timidly back. "This way if you would, Mr. Barton is waiting just in the parlor." She gave him another weak smile and turned leading him near Henry.
"Please have a seat, would you like some tea sir?" Rose asked lifting the tea pot. Her eyes skirting to Henry then away to his cup, which was still nearly full.

“Thank you Miss.” Was he right with this? Seemed to be so. Oh well. Harry kept his hat in his hands and followed her. Barton. Why would a rich guy from the East Coast come here to observe on of his many operations? It was a bit odd, but then again... the minds of the rich worked differently than the minds of others. As he was lead to Henry Barton he couldn't help but watch the girl from behind. She was cute, but a bit too timid for his tastes. Certainly a nice girl, but he hadn't come here to pick up women. Business was more important. Eventually they made it into the parlor and arrived at Henry's table. So that was Henry Barton. Harry used the short distraction from Rose to look him over. Certainly a gentleman. A Yankee, but that wasn't really a problem. Well dressed, possibly well mannered -a good dress didn't make good manners magically appear, Harry knew that. This would certainly be interesting.

When Henry heard the footsteps approaching from the lobby he assumed that it was either Burke or Stevens arriving and promptly did he get to his feet to face the arriving guest. When Lefcourt appeared it was certainly much to Bartons surprise, he perked his brow at the mans large almost bushy mustach and goatee and the rather large hat he had. 'Certainly the frontier type..'[/u] Henry thought to himself before taking a big step forward and offering his hand to the other man. "Cornelius Barton, Mister?" His tone was polite and measured, as was the curt smile that creased his lips. Yes, tonight would be interesting.
