"Th'name's Kathleen Parrish, but I'll answer to Kate." She said mildly, sipping her own drink and leaning on the counter. "It's slow now but if you're patient, Mr. Burrows, in a couple hours you won't recognize the place, we get right busy at night."
Indeed, the sun was beginning to get low on the horizon, and as the sun went down, so came her usual clientele.

"Lovely Name." He responded over his drink, his sister was named Kathrine which was almost the same difference. For a moment his thoughts strayed back to her and the fact that he hadn't seen her in such a long time. Of course they'd exchanged a few letters, but there was a rift there certainly. But he tried to distance himself from the past, showing the woman a mild smile. "I bet it does, I've heard a few stories along the path to Lost Haven." he said chuckling. "Where you from anyway?" he asked curiously, unable to place her accent exactly. "If I had to venture a guess I'd say back east, how wrong would I be?"

Katie laughed, hiding the momentary discomfort his question had caused her. In the week she had been in the area, she had not yet gotten used to people wanting to know where you came from. Always careful to guard her past - with maybe one exception - she had not gotten used to sharing.
"Aye, ye'd be righter than ye think, sir. I'm from Ireland, originally. Don't ask how I came to end up here, I don't rightly know myself, still trying to figure that one out!" She shrugged and smiled. "Good people though." She thought of her kind benefactor she had been so fortunate as to cross paths with her first hour in Lost Haven, then looked back up at Burrows. "Yes, good people, and a right decent place to live, if ye ask me."

Lawson chuckled at her. "I'm not sure how I ended up here either to be honest." And that was a reality, when he'd left Texas he had one goal in mind but somehow he seemed ten times further away from completing it then once he'd began this path and that fact often troubled him. "Well as long as noone steals my horse or rifle, this town has my vote as well." A slight grin appeared on his face while he watched her. "I'm from back East as well.." But he stopped short telling her where exactly, did he expect her to make a guess? Of course.

Katie nodded slightly, though she didn't really believe him. He was good at cloaking his speech, she ought to know, she spent a decade doing that - but she didn't see him as fitting in walking down the streets of the big cities on the east coast. "Well, we have our colorful characters, for sure... but if you use good sense I think your horse and rifle will be safe."

Shane smirked slightly. "Keep 'em hidden, keep 'em safe.. But even that doesn't stop them sometimes." Everytime he found himself in a new town such as this he compared it to the others he'd been through before and then debated which one was the worst he'd seen so far. "I've seen worse though, far far worse." His tone thoughtful while he nursed his drink. "I doubt I'll stay to long regardless though." As if on cue the front door flung open and someone stomped in, the doro slammed shut before Lawson could divert his attetion from Kate but when he finally looked he saw the form of a tall man dressed in black, very obviously irritated.
"What the hell are you looking at?" Elliot Masters growled at the man whom he'd never seen, his accent showing its head worse then usual. Storming past Lawson and Kate both, he didn't even spare her a look and instead just barked an order. "Parrish, Drink now.. Thank you!" Before he retreated to his usual table, throwing his hat down on the table top and plopping down in his seat to fume. "Lovely.." Lawson murmured softly, but loud enough for Kate to hear.

Katie raised her eyebrows when Elliot snapped at her customer, and took a small step back when his ire was directed at her. Her face flushed and she made a sheepish face at Burrows, wanting to be amused by his remark but a little too offput by Masters' attitude. "Indeed...if you'll excuse me a moment, Mr. Burrows, I shan't be long."
Taking a glass and setting it on the bar with a little more force than was needed, she poured a large glass of whiskey, and shook her head as she maneuvered around the bar and to Masters' table. This was the man in whom she had born confidence to? Being yelled at was nothing new, losing trust was - who had there ever been for her to trust before? Pinching her lips together, she set his drink down in front of him and crossed her arms. "Anything else you need, Sir?"

"Have fun with that." Lawson mumbled, not really caring who the man was as he shifted his full attention to his drink. "Thank you," Though Masters wasn't yelling, he was still grumbling and didn't even make eye contact with her as she brought him a drink. "No, I think that'll be fine... " He was about to let her go when he finally looked up at her ."I thought Lewis was working today? What are you doing here?"

Kate was inwardly kicking herself for trusting this man. Not that he had proven untrustworthy thus far, but he was with every word proving she didn't know him nearly well enough to be tellin' secrets to. Falling into bed with, sure, confiding in, definitely not. Nothing for it now though, she supposed as she nodded, and turned to leave. When he stopped her, she shrugged, also avoiding eye contact.
"I'm covering for him, something about a sixth child being born.. anyway, if that'll be all, I'll be tendin' to your paying customers, Mr. Masters."
She wanted to get away from him, he provoked a side of her she did not like - vulnerable was not her thing, if it had been she'd have died years ago, or still be in the low-class brothel she was abandoned in at thirteen. She was a survivor and this moment it seemed the only way to do that was to get away from Elliot Masters.

While Masters was left fuming in his corner, Lawson couldn't help but overhear the heated grumbling and gave Parrish a look when she came back to the bar. "Having problems I take it?" he asked, his glass having only a swallows worth of whiskey left in the bottom.

"Problems?" She asked, looking back at Shane with the worn-patience grin she could now muster. "No idea, honestly - haven't been workin' for the man long enough to know whether its his business or his knickers in a twist.." She glanced at his glass and looked up at him enquiringly. "Feeling adventurous? We have something pretty strong, local miners make it, I think Lewis stocked it on a lark, it'd knock your socks off..."

There was no way that he could help it but he snickered at her comments about Masters, not knowing that he was suppose to be one of the 'powerful' lords of Lost Haven even though he really wouldn't care if he knew anyway. For a moment he considered her offer, then shook his head. "Maybe later, I think I should probably be moving along actually." Conceding to her though he somewhat wanted to hang around. "If I get drunk before Night fall it makes me an alcoholic." He said with a toothy grin before finishing his drink off, "but it was a lovely moment." Reacing inside of his vest he pulled out a few coins and handed them to her. "It should be enough and a little extra for you."
Then the door opened once again, This time it was Lewis! Sixth Child? Maybe so, but if anything it looked as if he'd been tapping his special mining stockpile as he certainly looked a little hungover. "Thank God you're here."[/b] he groaned a bit staggering towards the bar.

She raised her eyebrows as she accepted his payment, noting that it was a nice tip. She smiled, looking up at him, marking him in her memory as a good customer. "Very kind of you, thanks. Hopefully we'll see you later, when the gambling gets going, aye?"
Before he could respond, her attention was distracted by the her stumbling, mussed coworker. Instantly she shot a look over to Masters to see if he had noticed yet, and no, he was still staring at his drink. "Excuse me a minute?" She asked Burrows apologetically as she stepped over ot the bar and stared daggers at Lewis.
"Of course I'm here, Lewis, you asked me to cover for ye so y'could be with your wife, if i recollect. What the blazes are ye doin' here?" She hissed, gesturing him into a stool before he fell over and waving the air in front her nose in distaste - how was the man even functioning?

"Maybe so." Lawson said smiling at her, though he hesitated in leaving with Lewis's arrival which was actually rather amusing. He spared her a quick nod as she attended to her badly hung over co-woker. "I'm here to work." he stammered before falling onto a stool. "Really.. Ow.. that hurt.. I'm good to go.. Just had a bit to much..." he made a drinking gesture with his hand "Last night.. but im fresh as a daisy today." fourtunately for him Masters was to busy fuming.

"Good lord." She commented, nonplussed as she looked at him. "Just the smell of you is enough to deter anyone from drinking. Ever!" She sighed, it was a bit of a pickle. Tonight was going to be a fairly busy night and she was generally kept quite busy just delivering drinks and taking orders, tending the bar as well would prove problematic but she suspected that it would be more practical to take on such a challenge than to rely on the man before her.
Sighing, she came around the bar and took his elbow, helping him stand, and firmly guiding him towards the door. "Do me a favor, Lewis. GO home. This is not a good day for you to be drunk around here, th'boss is is no mood!"
