"Today is a good day to serve drinks!" The man snapped back fighting her every inch of the way towards the door. "Just need to wash up, drink some coffee and I'll be good.. you go home! thats a better idea.." he grumbled but by now? Masters had taken a notice..

Kate was determined, but she was a small girl and Lewis was not exactly a thin man. If he didn't want to go, there was no way for her to make him do it. "Impossible! Go home, drink that coffee, please!" She had to take a step back as he evaded her direction, and her hands went to her hips, her temper rising. "You know what? Do whatever the hell you want." She said, her voice raised as she threw her hands up and turned to go back to the bar, freezing when she saw Masters dark gaze upon the pair of them. "Aww, you're done in, mate.." she mumbled, frozen on the spot.

Shane had started to get up from his seat to help the woman, but it seemed the other man was about to intervene. "Lewis, You drunken piece of filth, go home before I get Johnny to take you home." he growled, he was in no mood for this kind of nonsense and Lewis damn well knew he didn't wan to mess with Barlow, noone did. Though the threat would be lost on both Parrish and Lawson. Meekly Lewis gave in and nodded. "Aye Sir.. Going home now.." and with that he staggered out of the bar. "Worthless dog.."

Katie had no comment, just crossed her arms again, feeling a little sorry for the drunken barkeep. She dared to take another look at Elliot. "Have ye got a moment?" She'd pay him the courtesy of being interested in his problems, and then she'd put her foot down.
She was about to get busy and she wouldn't have time to ask later, but her temper was still raised and now without a target it had landed upon the fuming owner of the establishment. It didn't matter how many business a man owned, or what was going on, but she wasn't being paid to scuttle around here avoiding the wrath of the boss.

Now that the entertainment was obviously over Lawson grabbed his hat and made his way for the door, sparing Kate a nod on the way out. That look and nod infurated Masters even more, who just shot Kate a dirty glare. "Getting frisky with the customers already? Its not even dark yet." he sneered

Being treated like a whore was nothing new to her, but usually she at least deserved the snide comments. She glared right back at him. "Now you look here, Elliot Masters, if I wanted to be treated like dirt I'd never have put this much effort into starting a new life and I'll be damned if I let you start!" A couple curious glances came their way, but Katie was beyond social discretion. "Furthermore, if you wnat me to be unfriendly to the customers, just say so, but don't you dare take that tone with me again, or you'll be left with that drunken barkeep for service in these parts."
She whirled around to head back to the bar, but stopped and turned back around, her finger pointed up at his nose. "Just for the record, I was going to be concerned about whatever the blazes is going on with you at the moment, but now I'm not sure as I want to care."
Care? She did, and the fury of that flamed her tantrum as she stared up at him, her eyes flashing, daring him to retort.

Now on the defensive Masters folded his arms over his chest, half listening to her ramble on and on before she finally stopped talking. "You need to remember just who you're working for Miss Parrish," This was HIS place and he'd be damned if he'd let anyone take that tone with him. "This is MY Goddamn bar and I'll do damnwell as I please, Is that understood?" His eyes narrowed on hers, burning with an intenisty that only a few others had seen and when she jabbered her finger up at his nose he promptly slapped it away. "I don't need your pitty or worry."[/color] By now the last few customers had already cleared up. "Remember your place before you find yourself working the street." shifting on his heel he stormed away from her, it was typical for someone to get the brunt of his anger and today? She was the unlucky target, though she'd also put herself into harms way now

Katie laughed harshly, and took her apron off, flung it at him, so high was her temper she wanted to cry, anger, hurt, betrayal? It'd been a long time since she'd let herself get emotionally involved. stupid, stupid...
"Take that, and your goddamned bar, and shove it up your arse, you piece of.." She stopped herself, flustered to the point of hilarity. Turning on her heel, she stormed out of the door. There had to be another bar in town and she needed a damned drink. She was not worried about her position, she had plenty of gold, indeed she hadn't expected to find a place so quickly... but he knew far too much about her, no. She'd lay low, disappear on the next stagecoach, and be so much the wiser next town she stopped in.
stupid...stupid...stupid...

It took Masters everything in his power not to hurl a glass at the woman but for once he restrained himself and returned to his seat to continue his fuming. Outside of the Saloon Lawson had just crossed the street when he heard the same door slam yet again, turning to look he saw that it'd been Parrish this time. "Guess things didn't work out after all." he mused to himself, and was about to turn away when his better half got the better of him and so he turned to follow after her and when he was close enough to be within ear shot he asked, "Problem MIss?"

Kate stopped short, just now realizing the state she must look, which caused her to blush further as she took a deep breath and brushed a loose curl back behind her ear. She was speechless for a moment then shook her head. "I just quit... I won't be talked to like that, it's hard enough being a single woman out here without having to tolerate..." She trailed off, realizing she was ranting - AGAIN - to a complete stranger. "Sorry, I didn't mean to bother you."

Oh, how he'd forgotten how uncomfortable these things could be. Lawson shifted his weight a little, listening to her rantings. "Don't apologize, I just crossed over here into the line of fire.. It's my fault if any, But it sounds like you need a drink.. Dontcha think?" He tried to reassure her a little with a smile, but it was obvious she was quite upset.

Kate laughed softly. "Ohhh, yes. I'll be needing a drink or three, but I thought you weren't to be an alcoholic til nightfall?"
Her mind was racing, there was nothign for it but to leave, she had her money on her - indeed, she'd be a fool to leave it in a room in an establishment like the one she was living in. The stagecoach wasn't coming back for days and she felt a sense of urgency that made her feel like a cornered animal.. maybe this gentleman would escort her out?

The man chuckled a bit at her remark, a little surprised she'd even remembered his bit of small talk. "Just because you need a few drinks, doesnt mean I do." he said smiling at her. Then gesturing towards the Old Times Tavern just a short distance from them. "Nice place to drink, quiet, not quite as fancy.. But who cares at this point right? You were nice to me, Let me buy you a drink..Fairs fair?"

"More than fair, you're very kind." She murmered, nodding her acquiesance to his offer, and moving to walk alongside him towards the tavern. She was starting to regret flying off at the handle. That hadn't been a wise move, either - if Elliot Masters was everything he claimed to be, he was not one she should've annoyed.
Ah well, what's done is done. I wonder what it was that Lewis had been imbibing...
Strong stuff, and plenty of it, tomorrow would be soon enough to figure out how to pick up the pieces of the life she had just begun to build.

Following her into the tavern he gestured for her to take a seat at one of the tables, "What are you having?" he asked before proceding to the bar to get her a drink. Within a few moments he returned with hers stiff drink of choice and sat it on the table. "A bit different having someone else service you right?" he teased.
